The seemingly staid world of internal audit got to show off its embrace of change and innovation at the annual European Confederation of Institutes of Internal Auditing (ECIIA) conference, which was held in the Grand Duchy from September 18-20, 2019 at the European Convention Center Luxembourg.

The urgent need for unconventional thinking was emphasised by a host of fascinating speakers such as Christopher Wylie, the Cambridge Analytica whistleblower whom the New Yorker described as ‘a pink-haired, nose-ringed oracle sent from the future’, and Sir Ranulph Fiennes, the explorer who was the first person to reach both poles by foot, and who’s also famous for having run seven marathons in seven continents in seven days. The three-day event was opened by CNN International presenter Hannah Vaughan Jones and included presentations by dozens of renowned speakers on topics such as ‘Auditing Cyber Security Risk: From Nuisance to Impact’ and ‘Detecting Outliers on your Daily Operations: Fraud and New Behaviour’.
