There is no doubt that China has tremendous influence in the world of finance, and over the last few decades Luxembourg has fostered a close relationship with Asia’s biggest economic player.
On October 8, 2019, Luxembourg welcomed the China Finance Forum, organised by Luxembourg for Finance and held at Cercle Cité, the stately neo-baroque edifice that overlooks Place d’Armes in the capital. The event was opened up by journalist Judith Bogner and included keynote speeches from Luxembourg finance minister Pierre Gramenga and Dr Ma Jun, director of the Centre for Finance and Development at Tsinghua University in Beijing. Topics that were covered included China’s economic outlook, the internationalisation of its capital markets, and China’s enormous role in driving green finance. Dr Jun described China and Luxembourg as ‘the perfect match’, as the Grand Duchy and Europe in general have a lot of green money while in China there is huge demand for green investment.
