Luxembourg’s finance sector couldn’t exist without the country’s outstanding legal sector.

Needless to say, the many law firms in Luxembourg exert a large influence in the economic landscape. That’s why Luxembourg was the ideal location for the 63rd Congress of the International Association of Lawyers (in French Union Internationale des Avocats, or UIA), which was held from November 6-10, 2019 at the European Convention Center Luxembourg. Around 1,000 lawyers from around the world attended the annual gathering for this august organization. The two themes that oriented the event were ‘Innovation and the Law: Where Reason Meets Passion’ and ‘Business and Human Rights’. Organisers put together 30 working sessions that were led by about 300 speakers, and most sessions had simultaneous translation into French, English, and Spanish. Guests included Prime Minister Xavier Bettel as well as His Royal Highness Prince Guillaume of Luxembourg, the heir apparent to the throne.
